The Memra Metaxis
Created, written, and showrun by J.D. Bruden. We have been waiting on someone to write it down correctly. She did.
- I Format
- I HourScripted and serialized, built to return. Every hour closes on a choice the room will still be arguing about at midnight.
- II Written
- Seasons I & IISixteen episodes, edited and mastered. Sixteen hours that already exist, written before anyone was asked to believe in them.
- III Mapped
- Seasons III & IVTwo more set down inside the bible, ready to be written.
- IV Plotted
- Seasons V–VIIIArcs plotted through to series completion. Nothing here is being improvised.
- V Setting
- Earth. MMXXVII.Beneath the agencies and the redacted files. Monastery libraries that admit to nothing. Black sites with no country and no name. A chapel above a car park, a server floor under a mountain, and a stairwell somewhere that goes down further than the plans allow. The war is fought in the buildings you drive past.
It is finished, and it has been finished for some time.
Not a pitch hoping to become a show. A built, protected, wholly-owned franchise, written without an audience and without a deadline — the slower way, and the only way we have seen a world survive its own first season. We have watched a good many worlds go up quickly. We have watched most of them come down the same way.
Everything in the file was written under this.
These are not preferences. They are the rules the creator holds herself to — and the ones she would want held over her, were she the person being written about.
A moral dilemma in every episode, with no clean answer on either side. If the room agrees too quickly, I wrote it wrong.
Real doctrine across every branch, special operations written the way it actually works, real history, real declassified programs. If a thing can be checked it is correct, because the people most likely to check are the ones I served with.
Rank and elders are addressed properly, martial arts carry the lineage they came from, and weapons are handled the way they are handled by people who were taught by someone who cared whether they lived. I spent twelve years being trusted with other people’s sons and daughters, and I am not going to be careless with them on a screen.
The gifts are taken seriously and so is scripture — every ability here is documented somewhere, and every verse is quoted as written. We start with what is real. We are not confined to it.
Cultures, traditions and faiths appear as they are practiced, never as set dressing and never as shorthand for menace. When I do not know something well enough, I find someone who lives it and I ask.
Nothing gratuitous — no sex scene to fill time, no profanity thrown at a wall to prove the show is grown up. When hard language or intimacy appears it is earned, and it costs the characters something.
People who do this work are funny, not in spite of what they carry but because of it, and the right amount of trauma makes a person hilarious at exactly the wrong moment. Once in a while the show looks straight down the lens and admits it knows you are there — never to undercut a death.
Believer and skeptic, left and right, young and old — the characters run deep enough to be argued over by all of them, and some scenes will want a parent’s discretion. I have watched people who agree on nothing carry each other out of a building, and I refuse to write a show that pretends they cannot sit in the same room.
This is not here to divide anyone and it is not here to unite anyone; both are jobs for politicians and I am not one. It is here to provoke thought, compassion, goodness and curiosity — and if you finish an episode gentler with someone the next day, that was the whole intention.
Everything below is written. We are keeping all of it.
This page is the index. It is not the file. A story told too early is a story spent, and we have watched a great many spent before their time — usually by someone who meant well and could not wait. The file opens on signature.
You do not watch this universe. You stand inside it. We will know that you did. No one else will.
